BAFTA announces jury for Breakthrough India 2021; AR Rahman, Anupam Kher, Mira Nair, Siddharth Roy Kapur amongst the jurors

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) today announced the illustrious list of jury members for its debut BAFTA Breakthrough India initiative, supported by Netflix. Distinguished professionals from across the film, games and television industries came together to select this year’s talented honourees. The Jury was chaired by BAFTA Breakthrough India Ambassador, A R Rahman.

BAFTA announces jury for Breakthrough India 2021; AR Rahman, Anupam Kher, Mira Nair, Siddharth Roy Kapur amongst the jurors

BAFTA invited candidates from across the country to apply for their flagship talent initiative ‘BAFTA Breakthrough India’. Due to an overwhelming number of quality applications from the films, games and television industries nationwide, the initiative will recognise not five but ten emerging Indian talents across the three industries.

The ten chosen BAFTA Breakthrough India honourees will receive one-to-one mentoring and career guidance, full voting BAFTA membership and access to BAFTA events and networking opportunities, both in the UK and internationally.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the jury met virtually, bringing together a diverse mix of national and international knowledge across the film, games and television industries.

List of Jurors 2021 include:

AR Rahman - Jury Chair (Music Composer)
Anupam Kher (Actor)
Charu Desodt (Former BAFTA Breakthrough & Games Producer)
Krishnendu Majumdar (BAFTA Chair and TV Producer)
Mira Nair (Director/Writer/Producer)
Monika Shergill (VP, Content, Netflix India)
Shonali Bose (Director/Writer/Producer)
Siddharth Roy Kapur (Founder & Producer at Roy Kapur Films)

BAFTA Breakthrough India Ambassador and Jury Chair, A R Rahman, said, “BAFTA is a platform where artists from around the world, including the best from India, are represented and celebrated, and it’s my honour to be a part of its Breakthrough India jury. There are many creatives in India who are looking to bring their art to the world, to showcase India’s vibrant and diverse culture, but unfortunately, they face traps both mental and external. The opportunity to discuss these blocks, to engage on issues of creativity, to make the right connections, to network and grow, would greatly benefit the plethora of talent we have in our country. Through Breakthrough, we offer artists our knowledge and connectivity, as well as opportunities that’ll hopefully nurture their craft and help them leave their mark on the world. India is home to incredible artists and I’m proud of us. It’s time we make our names known, it’s time we all shine."

Amanda Berry OBE, Chief Executive at BAFTA, said, “India has one of the most fascinating creative industries and is home to so many talented film, games and television practitioners. The BAFTA Breakthrough initiative will facilitate meaningful collaborations between creative communities globally and that is the one of most exciting, extraordinary parts of the initiative. We are so excited to be supporting the next generation of talent in India and look forward to working with them and offering unique career development, networking and promotion on a global stage.”

Breakthrough India marks BAFTA’s arrival in India, showcasing and propelling the upcoming generation of creative talent in film, games and television globally alongside selected talent from the UK and USA. BAFTA Breakthrough India, launched in November 2020, is BAFTA’s flagship, global new talent initiative that showcases and supports the next generation of creative talent in film, games and television. Previously known as Breakthrough Brits, the initiative has been running in the UK since 2013 and in China in 2019, but this year marks the first time the initiative is recognising talent globally across the UK, US and India. It has championed over 165 talented newcomers in its history, including actors Letitia Wright, Florence Pugh, Josh O’Connor, Malachi Kirby, Ray Panthaki and Molly Windsor, reality television producer Coco Jackson, composer Segun Akinola, game producer Dan Gray, and directors Rose Glass, Stella Corradi, Destiny Ekaragha and Michael Pearce. Previous Breakthrough alumni have gone on to flourish within their respective disciplines, with over 50% going on to become BAFTA Winners and Nominees.

Siddharth Roy Kapur, BAFTA Breakthrough India juror, said, “ "There is such depth of talent in India with an incredible diversity of life experience and very often this talent does not find an outlet to shine, without access to those who can facilitate and encourage them. The BAFTA Breakthrough India programme will give emerging talent unprecedented opportunities to connect with and learn from the very best in the world. I was proud to be part of such an intensive, well intentioned and substantive jury deliberation process, with all my fellow jurors having taken the time and effort to review each candidate so closely. The final selection was difficult because there was so much outstanding talent to choose from, but I am incredibly excited with the final list of chosen honourees, each of whom I believe has the ability to make their mark on the global stage in the years to come. "

The final list of honourees will be announced in early May 2021.

Due to the recent lockdown, the cine bodies including FWICE and IMPPA had written a letter to the CM of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray. In the letter, the unions had mentioned how vaccination drives could be rolled out for the daily wage workers and also requested permission to allow them to continue the work on sets with a lesser amount of crowd. Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan have no plans, immediate or otherwise, to bring out their second born into the public. A source very close to the couple says it is a defence mechanism. “Look at what happened with Taimur. Saif and Kareena decided to bring Taimur out, just to be polite with the photographers they allowed them to click the child as and when he was. Now, Taimur starts waving the minute he sees photographers, it is not healthy at all for the child.”

"My next release, Malik is for theatres only" - Fahadh Faasil

Malayali maverick actor Fahadh Faasil is adamant on releasing his next film Malik which is a political drama about coastal politics in Kerala, in theatres only. Explains Fahadh, “Last month I had Irul and Joji on streaming platforms. On May 13 I’ve Malik to release in theatres. In which we take on the coastal politics of Kerala. It’s a fictionalized version of reality.”

"My next release, Malik is for theatres only" - Fahadh Faasil

Fahadh doesn’t want Malik to be talked about for its political theme. “I don’t want it discussed for its controversial aspects. I’d like it to be discussed not for its politics but its cinematic merits. The first 12 minutes of Malik is one single shot. And that’s something I’d want the audience and critics to discuss.”

Fahadh whose, Joji has again won him rave reviews believes the OTT platform and movie theatres to be mutually exclusive outlets for film to be released. “I still believe that the two platforms are separate. I don’t think Joji would have worked if released in theatres. I don’t think Joji would have appealed to audiences who look for commercial aspects in their cinema. Everything in Joji from the sound to the pace is designed for home viewing. In fact I plan to do a theatrical version of my digital film C U Soon.”

Incidentally the Joji director Dileesh Pothan has a role as an actor in Malik.

SCOOP: As Maharashtra goes under lockdown, Brahmastra’s shoot delayed yet again?

The state of Maharashtra is reeling under a serious second wave of Coronavirus. The daily number of cases has crossed the 60,000 mark four times, thus putting tremendous pressure on the health care. Hence, it was decided in the first week of April that lockdown-like restrictions will be imposed and a weekend lockdown will also be put into place. It led to closure of non-essential shops and establishments. But shootings were allowed. However, when the cases continued to rise, the state government imposed a strict lockdown under which, all shoots were asked to be stopped till April 30. It dealt a huge blow to the film shootings which are taking place in Mumbai. Some of the films that were being filmed in the city were Tiger 3, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Maidaan, Adipurush, Heropanti 2, Shabaash Mithu etc.

SCOOP As Maharashtra goes under lockdown, Brahmastra’s shoot delayed yet again

Now it has come to light that one more film whose shoot has been put on hold is Brahmastra. A source says, “The final schedule was going on and a song has been left for the shoot. A set has been built at Film City and Ganesh Acharya was roped in as choreographer. The shoot was supposed to happen before but it couldn’t take place as lead actor Ranbir Kapoor had tested positive for Covid-19. Later, actress Alia Bhatt too contracted the virus. And then came the government rule that shooting of scenes with a large number of artistes needed to be avoided. The song in question had nearly 300 dancers. Finally, all shoots were suspended till April 30. Hence, the shoot will now take place later.”

A trade expert says, “We have lost count of the number of times that Brahmastra’s shoot has been pushed ahead. It went on floors in early 2018. We are in early 2021 and yet, its shoot has still not got over. My heart goes out to the team and its makers.” He also adds, “Thankfully, the trade and moviegoers haven’t lost interest in the movie. It is expected to release in 2021-end and is surely one of the most keenly awaited films.”

Besides Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, Brahmastra also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna. Shah Rukh Khan features in a special appearance in this fare which is mounted as a three-part sci-fi saga. It is directed by Ayan Mukerji, who earlier directed Wake Up Sid (2009) and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013).

Maanvi Gagroo goes global with one of its kind virtual play Islands of Contentment

Maanvi Gagroo continues to climb the ladders of success with projects that stand out from the rest. With her recent Filmfare nomination and continued love for the Emmy nominated web series Four More Shots Please, she is going to be a part of a rather exciting, one of its kind project, and it has everyone's attention for reasons that are absolutely celebratory.

Maanvi Gagroo goes global with one of its kind virtual play Islands of Contentment

Maanvi is all set to be a part of a virtual production, titled 'Islands of Contentment'. While Maanvi will take her first step with this project at a global level, what is also appealing about the play is its South Asian cast. Written by Dipti Bramhandkar, Islands of Contentment will be presented by New York City's The Tank and co-produced by Hypokrit Productions via Zoom. Islands of Contentment is co-directed by Arpita Mukherjee and Hannah Wolf (with select filmed monologues directed by Rahul Chittella). Maanvi will be seen sharing the stage with the likes of Ajay Naidu, Kalki Koechlin Suraj Sharma, among others.

Talking about the same, Maanvi says, ''I am absolutely pumped about the performance as this plunge will enable me to broaden my base. As an artist, I strongly believe that an actor must not be confined to one medium or format and that content always trumps everything else. Islands of Contentment will have thirteen monologues and given the unique virtual format that we have taken to, it is the content that will make the audiences feel extremely relatable. The topics are around modern relationships and I, for one, am honored to be a part of this venture, especially given the global reach, which will allow me to widen my fan base. The pandemic has forced us to be more creative with not just the content and stories but their format and execution as well. It has brought the world closer, in more ways than one.''

She further added, ''With great artists on board, a one of its kind platform, and the worldwide appeal, I can't wait to see how does the audience perceives the performance and the project in its entirety.''

Islands of Contentment will be performed over the weekends from April 16 to May 2. With everyone currently dealing with the pandemic, these stories are a sweet reminder of togetherness amid isolation.

Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar's next no longer titled Mr. Lele

Back in January 2020, Mr. Lele starring Varun Dhawan was officially announced. The film would have marked another collaboration between Dhawan and Shashank Khaitan. But, due to unprecedented circumstances, Dhawan had to step down and the project was in limbo. Then, Vicky Kaushal replaced Varun Dhawan and it turns out that the script and title have undergone a lot of changes.

Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar's next no longer titled Mr. Lele

Speaking to a daily, filmmaker Shashank Khaitan recently revealed that the title of the film is not the same anymore. In the past year at home, he made a lot of changes in the script too. The director said that he worked on the material a lot and it's not the same film as it was initially conceptualised.

Both the lead actors Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar tested positive recently and isolated themselves at home. This weekend, both of their results came negative. Shashank Khaitan has done theatre with Kaushal whereas Pednekar and Khaitan were in the same school. So, he considers this project as friends coming together to create a new world.

REVEALED: Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi to release on Netflix on THIS date

The first theatrical release of the year was Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi and it opened to a lot of critical acclaim. Released on January 1, 2021, the ensemble film starred Naseeruddin Shah, Supriya Pathak, Konkona Sen Sharma, Parambrata Chatterjee, Vikrant Massey, Vinay Pathak, Manoj Pahwa, Ninad Kamat, Sadiya Siddiqu, Divya Jagdale, Deepika Amin, Brijendra Kala and Rajendra Gupta. Directed by Seema Pahwa, it was all set to release on the global streaming platform Netflix on March 31. But the slice-of-life didn’t make it on the OTT giant on the said date.

REVEALED Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi to release on Netflix on THIS date

But now it has come to light that Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi is all set to release on Netflix on April 24, that is, next Saturday. Netflix made this announcement today on their app. Interestingly, they release a list of films and shows that would be aired on their platform on the 1st and 15th of every month. The list which came out on April 15 didn’t have Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi’s mention.

Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi was recently in news after Bollywood Hungama exclusively broke the news that its team members are upset with a recently released digital film, Pagglait. It starred Sanya Malhotra in the lead along with Shruti Sharma, Sayani Gupta, Raghubir Yadav, Ashutosh Rana, Sheebha Chadha, Jameel Khan, Rajesh Tailang, Chetan Sharma, Aasif Khan, Sharib Hashmi, Meghna Malik and others. Interestingly, both the films dealt with a sudden death in a family and the resulting chaos. Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi’s director Seema Pahwa confirmed that both the films were shot in the same house as well. What’s more, Pagglait also released on Netflix. However, in an interaction with this writer, she said, “Ours was an original film and so is Pagglait. I would not say that they copied our film. I guess it must be a coincidence.”

Nevertheless, this controversy intrigued viewers even more about Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi and hence, its digital premiere got keenly awaited.  A source said, “The team members were kept in the dark that Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi won’t be releasing on Netflix on March 31. They felt upset because they deserved to know about the change in plans. But now they are happy that their labour of love will be seen by many more people across the world once it drops on April 24.”

Sanjay Leela Bhansali considering OTT release for Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi?

After desisting the temptation—and believe me, the amount being offered could feed a whole village for two  years — Sanjay Leela Bhansali may finally give in to the very  lucrative of releasing his  next big-screenopus Gangubai Kathiawadi on the digital platform.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali considering OTT release for Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi

Sources close to the development say the offers are not what are tempting Bhansali.  “It’s the way the Covid-19 situation is going,” divulges a source. “Very soon there may not be any other option left for Bhansali. He is now seriously thinking of going digital with Gangubai Kathiawadi, the 30th July theatrical release now seeming next to impossible.”

It must be mentioned here that Bhansali had designed another project, the sprawling saga of a kotha filled with captivating courtesans Heera Mandi for the OTT platform while Gangubai Kathiawadi was always designed for the big screen. Who was to know that Covid would continue its rampage in 2021 as well?

SCOOP: Ajay Devgn’s web show to be a remake of British show Luther; official announcement next week

In March this year Ajay Devgn took to his social media profile sharing a cryptic message wherein he asked fans and viewers to refer to him not as Ajay Devgn but as Sudarshan. At that time reports claimed that the said post was a promotion for his soon to be launched webshow that would also mark Devgn’s OTT debut. Now, a few weeks on and Bollywood Hungama has managed to get some inside details about Devgn’s show. In fact, a well-placed industry insider tells us that the said show will be a remake of the British TV series Luther.

SCOOP: Ajay Devgn’s web show to be a remake of British show Luther; official announcement next week

Commenting on the same the insider spills the beans saying, “Yes, Ajay will be making his OTT debut with the Luther remake that is jointly being produced by BBC India and Applause Entertainment. Once ready the show will be aired on Disney+ Hotstar, and an official announcement of the show will happen sometime next week.” Ask the source for more details about the cast of the show and he adds, “The original is a psychological crime thriller with Idris Elba playing the lead. Given the seriousness and gravitas needed for the role Ajay was the perfect fit for the remake. Besides Devgn, the remake will also feature a prominent female lead much like the original, and buzz is that Ileana D’Cruz has been approached for the said role.”

If that wasn’t all, we also hear that the said show will be directed by Rajesh Mapuskar who directed the 2012 film Ferrari Ki Sawaari and the 2016 film Ventilator. Though details of what to expect are still sketchy, given the story line of the original British TV show Luther, we can expect the remake to feature Devgn going undercover as an investigator to solve crimes.

Kartik Aaryan’s ouster from Dostana 2 to cost Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions a whopping Rs. 20 crores

Earlier today, it was confirmed that actor Kartik Aaryan has been ousted from Karan Johar's Dostana 2 citing unprofessional behaviour. It also came to light that Karan Johar's production house Dharma Productions will no longer work with Kartik in the future as well. The reason stated behind this decision is a fallout between Karan and Kartik. Along with the creative differences, it has also been reported that Janhvi Kapoor and Kartik have had a fallout.

Kartik Aaryan’s ouster from Dostana 2 to cost Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions a whopping Rs. 20 crores

Reportedly, problems first surfaced when Kartik Aaryan expressed displeasure with the second half of the film after shooting for 20 days for the film. Karan was not happy with this as Kartik had signed the film after listening to the entire script. It is learnt that the makers had shot for a total of 24 days for the film directed by Collin D'Cunha. Of these 24 days, Kartik shot for 20 days. Reportedly, the recasting will cost Dharma Productions a whopping amount of Rs. 20 crores.

Despite the matter being public now, Dharma Productions has decided to maintain a dignified silence. Issuing an official statement, they wrote, "Due to professional circumstances, on which we have decided to maintain a dignified silence-we will be recasting Dostana 2, directd by Collin D'Cunha. Please wait for official announcement soon."

A source tells us, "The reason for Kartik Aaryan to not continue with the film as stated by him is the creative differences after one and a half years and completing over 20 days of the shoot. This has never happened in the history of Dharma where an actor has walked out of the film for creative issues. Dharma has decided not to work with him in the future."

Dostana 2 stars Janhvi Kapoor and will also be the launch vehicle for debutante Lakshya. The movie is the sequel to the 2007 hit film Dostana starring Priyanka Chopra, Abhishek Bachchan, and John Abraham. The film had done wonders for the careers of all three actors back then.

Makers of Vidyut Jammwal starrer Sanak take extra Covid-19 precautions for Goa schedule

With an alarming surge in Covid-19 cases across the country, film producers and production houses have become extra cautious to ensure safety of the entire cast and crew of their respective projects. Producer Vipul Amrutlal Shah, who is looking forward to start shooting the last schedule of his highly-anticipated film Sanak in Goa this month, has ensured extra measures on the movie set.

Makers of Vidyut Jammwal starrer ‘Sanak’ take extra Covid-19 precautions for Goa schedule

Starring Vidyut Jammwal and debutant actress Rukmini Maitra, the movie also features Neha Dhupia in a special performance along with Chandan Roy Sanyal in a pivotal role. The poster of Sanak launched at the beginning of this year, created a lot of buzz and garnered immense anticipation.

Talking about the precautionary measures being taken for the last schedule of Sanak, director Kanishk Verma informs, “We only have the Goa schedule left. There is a sudden surge in the (covid-19) cases and the whole country is going through this. To be very honest, we have been very strict from the beginning as far as santisation and covid precautions on the set are concerned. We never took it lightly, even when we started the principal photography of the movie in January. I think we have been lucky enough to not have a single case for three months and back-to-back shooting because we were quite strict with safety measures and responsible. We made sure that everybody on set maintained the social distancing protocol. Only the people absolutely needed for the shot were there on the set. At any given point, we didn’t have more than 10-15 people on the shooting floor. Everyone was sent to the different rooms and corners and were called in when needed. Though this affected the shoot time but everybody was very responsible and played their part well. Hence, we managed to finish the shoot in three months without any injury or covid cases. In fact, all equipment on set, cars and bikes of artists and crew members were also sanitised as soon as they arrived on set.”

Producer Vipul Shah adds, “We had a specialised sanitization team working on the set. There was a team of eight people whose primary job was to ensure that the entire shooting location and set up was properly sanitized, everybody goes through the sanitization tunnel every 15-20 minutes, everybody was given sanitizer to clean their hands, temperatures were checked regularly, surprise checks were also done. We had also created different colour bands, like green bands were given to the ones who can access the shooting area and red bands for those who cannot. Some extra unit bases were also created and sanitised, so the people can split in small units and that’s how we functioned.”

Vipul has brought successful movies like the Commando franchise, Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty, Singh is Kinng, Force and many more. These films are still fresh in the minds of the audience even today where he has always produced content that ages well. With Sanak, we can expect another great story in the making. It needs to be seen what action-packed ace card is up Vipul's sleeves this time around.

Presented by Zee Studios in association with Sunshine Pictures, Sanak is a Vipul Amrutlal Shah production, being directed by Kanishk Verma.

CONFIRMED: Kartik Aaryan ousted from Dostana 2, Dharma Productions decides never to work with the actor again

There were reports that Kartik Aaryan will no longer be a part of Karan Johar’s Dostana 2. The movie was announced in 2019 but the shoot had to be delayed due to the pandemic. While no one officially confirmed the news, a trade source has announced that the actor has been ousted from the movie and that Dharma will no longer work with Kartik Aaryan in the future. The reason stated behind this decision is a fallout between Karan Johar and Kartik Aaryan. Along with the creative differences, it has also been reported that Janhvi Kapoor and Kartik have had a fallout.

CONFIRMED Kartik Aaryan replaced from Dostana 2, Dharma decides to never work with the actor in the future

The actor initially had problems with his dates and schedule, later on, he started having creative issues. Bollywood Hungama had earlier reported that Kartik was replaced from the project for dilly-dallying the shoot for months now. He decided to first wrap up Ram Madhvani's film Dhamaka and that annoyed Karan. A source told us, "For the longest time, Kartik gave a genuine reason of the Covid 19 pandemic to not start shoot. He wanted to ensure safety so Karan didn't push him much. But when he shot for Dhamaka, Karan was upset. They had an indoor meeting where Karan expressed his disappointment."

Kartik later did the unthinkable and that led to major fallout with Karan Johar. "Kartik got upset with the banner when they gave Shashank Khaitan's Yoddha to Shahid Kapoor. Although Shahid soon quit, they never approached Kartik for the role anyway. Also, since Kartik’s dates were not available for Dostana 2, Karan decided to go ahead and start Mr. Lele with Vicky Kaushal and Janhvi Kapoor from April. The moment Kartik got to know about this development; he informed the production house that the only dates available for Dostana 2 this year will be April onwards. Karan understood what Kartik was doing and quickly reprimanded him for the same. He was genuinely upset with Kartik as Janhvi had to pick between Dostana 2 and Mr. Lele. The last we heard, Karan and Kartik are not speaking a word to each other."

Another source tells us, “The reason for Kartik Aaryan to not continue with the film as stated by him is the creative differences after one and a half years and completing over 20 days of the shoot. This has never happened in the history of Dharma where an actor has walked out of the film for creative issues. Dharma has decided not to work with him in the future."

Karan Johar has decided to ouste Kartik and not work with him in the future having enough of his tantrums. The source further informed, “Dharma is such a prestigious banner and KJo is reputed for launching careers – but never at the cost of a film’s future and the livelihoods of its cast and crew.”

There have been no reports as to who will step in for Kartik Aaryan’s role in Dostana 2.

SCOOP: Did Deepika Padukone want Sanjay Leela Bhansali to direct Draupadi for her?

Bollywood Hungama had earlier revealed that all is not well in Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's paradise, as the two are in an unsaid cold war, trying one upmanship over the other. A little birdie had told us that after Sanjay Leela Bhansali decided to make Gangubai Kathiawadi with Alia Bhatt, Padukone was taken back by surprise. And now, the same little birdie has dug more details about the cold war.

SCOOP Did Deepika Padukone want Sanjay Leela Bhansali to direct Draupadi for her

"Deepika and SLB formed a powerful combo, with three super hits, Ram Leela, Bajirao Mastani and Padmaavat. Of course, the two bonded very well and for Deepika, Bhansali was like a mentor. When she announced the ambitious epic, Draupadi, it didn't have a director on board. Since the script followed a template from the Indian history and mythology, Deepika felt, her close friend, Sanjay Leela Bhansali would be the best to direct. However, she was shocked when Bhansali politely refused the offer as he preferred on making his dream projects like Gangubai Kathiawadi and Baiju Bawra," a little birdie told Bollywood Hungama.

This certainly didn't go down well with Deepika, and since then, she was offered a special song in Gangubai Kathiawadi, which she refused to be a part of. She was also offered a part in Heera Mandi, a web series by Bhansali, and she again couldn't take it up. The discussions around Baiju Bawra have also been put on the back burner for now. "But it's all temporary. The two are thorough professionals, and when SLB approaches DP with another script, she will definitely come on board if she likes what is written. Right now, both are busy with their own work, which has probably resulted in cut off from conversations. But another collaboration will happen and this cold war will end. You never know, they might just come together on Baiju Bawra once Gangubai Kathiawadi is out of SLB's system."

Meanwhile, the hunt for the director of Deepika's Draupadi continues.

Lata Mangeshkar to take the Covid-19 vaccine this week

India’s resident Nightingale Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar is all set to take the Covid vaccine this week. All the other members of distinguished Mangeshkar family have already taken the vaccine. “Bass main baqi reh gayi hoon (only I remained),” says Lataji. She had been been so far excluded from the jab club because of her frail health. She was hospitalized for a severe lung infection in December 2019 and has been advised extra precaution since then.

Lata Mangeshkar to take the Covid-19 vaccine this week

“But now my personal doctor whom I trust blindly says it is best that I take the vaccination since it is absolutely safe. I advise everyone out there eligible for the vaccination to go for it. I am told it does not ensure complete immunity from the virus. But it minimizes the impact considerably if you are unfortunate enough to get the virus,” says Lataji.

The singer is distressed by the steep spike in Covid numbers. “It is a very bad situation out there. I urge all people to follow the guidelines. Aab yeh doosron ke ghar ki aafat nahin hai yeh ham sab ke ghar aa chuki hai (the Covid is not other people’s crisis anymore it has now reached all our homes).”

Lataji’s advice, “Stay at home, watch movies, listen to songs, yes mine too.”

Ajay Devgn and Siddharth Roy Kapur announce ’90s satire film GOBAR!

Actor-producer-director Ajay Devgn is joining hands with producer Siddharth Roy Kapur for a '90s satire film titled GOBAR! The official announcement was made on April 16.

Ajay Devgn and Siddharth Roy Kapur announce ’90s satire film Gobar

Set in the cow belt of India during the 1990s, GOBAR! is an amusing satire inspired by true events that transpire when an idiosyncratic animal-loving veterinary doctor chances upon a tangled web of corruption in his local state hospital. Exploring a never-seen-before milieu, GOBAR! is a one-of-a-kind comedy themed on one man’s hilariously bumbling and ridiculously brave journey to stand up against corruption whatever the consequences.

Producer Siddharth Roy Kapur shares, “GOBAR! is a story that chronicles the seemingly pointless but ultimately heroic journey of a simple citizen who deals with corruption in a way that will bring on many laughs, much adventure, and ultimately a simple message about the power of the common man. What makes the film entertaining and unique is that it is a situational comedy that sheds light on the inner workings of power. To be collaborating with Ajay, someone I have always respected for his creative choices, and his team at Ajay Devgn Ffilms on bringing this film to life is very exciting.”

Producer Ajay Devgn says, “The story of GOBAR! is at once unique, relatable, and incredibly funny, as well as gripping and entertaining to the point that I'm confident it will compel people to go to the theatres. We are very clear about the impact we want to make. We want viewers to laugh, relax, perhaps think a little bit and be entertained. The standard that Siddharth observes in content creation and filmmaking makes this collaboration very exciting for us.”

Director-writer Sabal Shekhawat says, “GOBAR! is a film that will take viewers back to the charming days of the 90s and the simple life of small-town living. I wrote this story keeping in mind a few true events that unravelled a gamut of issues, the centre of which is a vet whose love for his cows and animals supersedes everything. I’m grateful and happy that two esteemed producers like Ajay and Sid showed faith in my vision and offered a sizeable canvas to the storyline. Quality cinema has come from both production houses, and I'm sure that the treatment of my directorial will be no different. As a filmmaker, I'm absolutely thrilled!"

GOBAR! produced by Roy Kapur Films and Ajay Devgn Ffilms, will go on the floors at the end of the year. The casting for the male lead of the comedy-drama is currently ongoing.

Alia Bhatt is not dancing in Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi

There are reports in a section of the media that Alia Bhatt will be performing two dance numbers in Gangubai Kathiawadi. Sources close to the film completely debunk these dance aspirations being forward by fans of Alia and her dancing.

Alia Bhatt is not dancing in Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi

Says a source very close to the project, “Though Gangubai Kathiawadi is not a song less film like SLB (Sanjay Leela Bhansali)’s Black, it is certainly not a musical like Devdas or Saawariya. SLB has composed some songs for the film that are moody atmospheric and mostly will be played in the background.”

As for Alia, “She plays a dreaded criminal. Where will she get space to dance?” Early in the film she has a romantic number with her screen lover played by TV actor Shantanu Maheshwari with whom Gangubai elopes as a teenager, only to be betrayed by him.

The source also adds that there will be one dance number in Gangubai Kathiawadi, performed by Huma Qureshi.

Pratik Gandhi has been working in Gujarati theatre and cinema since a long time. In Bollywood, he was seen in Mitron (2018) and Loveyatri (2018) as the hero’s sidekick. But it’s in Scam 1992 (2020) that he got noticed and how. The web series, based on the life of infamous stock broker Harshad Mehta, got unanimous critical acclaim. Overnight, Pratik Gandhi became a household name. At the same time, audiences began to look forward to his upcoming projects with keen interest.

BREAKING: Scam 1992 star Pratik Gandhi's next is a Gujarati web series, Vitthal Teedi; makers release its first glimpse and it's quite intriguing

It has now come to light that the actor will be seen in a Gujarati web series, titled Vitthal Teedi and if all goes well, it will be his next venture that will be out after Scam 1992. It is directed by Abhishek Jain, the celebrated Gujarati director who made films like Kevi Rite Jaish (2012), Bey Yaar (2014) and Wrong Side Raju (2016). Vitthal Teedi will be released on an upcoming OTT platform, OHO Gujarati, which is incidentally co-owned by Abhishek Jain’s company CineMan Productions Ltd.

Last month, OHO Gujarati released a promo on YouTube to announce its launch. The 85 second long video had a glimpse of their many upcoming web series. Vitthal Teedi was placed last and was prominently presented due to Pratik Gandhi’s casting. Recently, Abhishek Jain revealed that Vitthal Teedi is set in the early 80s and is about a small-time gambler. The web series was recently filmed, in January 2021, that is, after Scam 1992’s super-success.

Incidentally, Abhishek Jain and Pratik Gandhi had worked before in Bey Yaar and Wrong Side Raju. Besides Vitthal Teedi, Abhishek Jain’s next this year would be Hum Do Humare Do. This Dinesh Vijan production stars Rajkummar Rao, Kriti Sanon, Paresh Rawal and Ratna Pathak Shah. A few years ago, Abhishek Jain was also supposed to helm the Hindi remake of the Kannada hit Kirik Party (2016), with Kartik Aaryan and Jacqueline Fernandez. But the film got shelved before it could go on floors, for unknown reasons.

As for Pratik Gandhi, his plate seems to be full. Along with Vitthal Teedi, Pratik will be seen in Atithi Bhooto Bhava, co-starring Jackie Shroff and Sharmin Segal. It is directed by Hardik Gajjar, who is also directing Pratik in Ravan Leela. Pratik will then be seen in a Disney+ Hotstar web series, Six Suspects, co-starring Richa Chadha and directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia. It is based on Vikas Swarup’s bestselling novel of the same name and is being shot currently. Finally, Pratik Gandhi will soon begin work on another Hindi film, Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan, which also features Taapsee Pannu.

One crore defamation suit filed by the veteran producer for defamatory’, ‘slanderous’, and ‘distasteful’ statements as well as ‘patently false allegations’ on KRK's Twitter and YouTube accounts.

This is yet another occasion where the Hon’ble Bombay High Court has passed an order restraining Kamaal Khan from making slanderous and defamatory remarks against Mr. Vashu Bhagnani, his family members, his business, and his projects. SCOOP: Salman Khan refuses to take money for his cameo in Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathan

Bollywood Hungama had earlier reported that Aditya Chopra would be paying Salman Khan a mammoth figure for his 10 day cameo in Pathan. The filmmaker was of the opinion that Salman as Tiger would add value to the collections of Pathan, and therefore deserves to be paid for the same. In February, Salman Khan shot for his portions with Shah Rukh Khan at YRF studios in Mumbai.

SCOOP Salman Khan refuses to take money for his cameo in Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathan

After the shoot wrap, a source from the set informs us that Adi went to Salman to discuss the remuneration and payment structure. But Salman being Salman, straight away refused to take any money from the producer. A bystander on the set informed Bollywood Hungama about the overview of conversation between Salman and Adi. "Shah Rukh is like a brother. I would do anything for him," is what Salman told Adi, when they discussed the financials.

Being a thorough professional, Adi kept insisting on him (Salman Khan) being paid. "Split my fees by adding it to the budget of Pathan and Tiger," Salman said, and took off from the sets of Pathan. The close source now tells us that Adi is planning to give a costly gift to Salman for his goodwill gesture of extended cameo. When Adi spoke about this instance to Shah Rukh, the actor was not surprised and had just four words to say, "Bhai Toh Bhai Hai".

Meanwhile, the shoots of both Pathan and Tiger have been put on hold for the time being due to the order issued by the Maharashtra government due to pandemic.

“We will wait out the COVID-19 spike to release Chehre on the big screen,” says Anand Pandit

Just as the film industry was showing signs of recovery from the massive economic impact of the 2020 lockdown and learning to adapt to the pandemic by going back to work and screening films in theatres, a fresh spike in COVID-19 cases has left it gasping for breath again.

“We will wait out the COVID-19 spike to release Chehre on the big screen,” says Anand Pandit

Many new releases all set to grace the silver screen have now been postponed and one of them is veteran producer Anand Pandit’s labour of love, Chehre. The Rumy Jafry directorial has faced numerous delays due to the pandemic and having surmounted them, the film was all set to release this April amid rising media buzz and intense audience curiosity.

Says Pandit, “The film has created so much buzz because of its star cast, its stunning international locations and an obviously dramatic and suspenseful theme. We have been approached by OTT platforms that want to stream Chehre with a grand, publicity-fuelled premiere but this is a larger-than-life film that merits the silver screen. That is why I would like to wait out the current COVID crisis to give the film the theatrical release it deserves. I am a patient man and an optimist as well!”

Chehre is produced by Anand Pandit Motion Pictures and Saraswati Entertainment Private Limited. it also stars Krystle D'Souza, Rhea Chakraborty, Siddhanth Kapoor, Annu Kapoor, Dhritiman Chatterjee and Raghubir Yadav.

Delhi Crime: Sudhanshu Saria begins scripting Season 3 of the Netflix show

An actor from the series told me, “We’ve shot and completed Season 2 of Delhi Crime. Season 3 is now being written. It will go into production in couple of months.” The hardhitting outstanding first season of Delhi Crime dealt with the brutal gang rape and murder of Nirbhaya. The second and third seasons of Delhi Crime are also based on real-life crimes, though they may not be sourced out of Delhi.

Is the second season of Delhi Crime being held back by Netflix to clean out the more controversial visuals and dialogues?

“Not at all,” a Delhi Crime actor tells me. “The new government guidelines on what we can’t show are not applicable to our show. We are not going into religion and politics. Crime is fine.”

Rahul Roy and his family tests positive for COVID-19, the actor is shocked with the results

He wrote, “Quarantine Day 19. My Covid story My Resident Floor was sealed on 27th March as a neighbour had got tested positive so as a precautionary measure we all were sealed within Flats for 14days. I and my family had to fly to Delhi on 11th April so we did RTPCR test from Metropolis Lab on 7th April only to receive the test reports on 10th April stating my whole family @romeersen and @priyankaroy_pia are Covid positive. We had no symptoms at all, and we came to know that the same day BMC officials were doing testing for the whole society so we again did the Antigen test and we all were negative, and moments later again gave samples for RTPCR which went to Suburban Lab but the test report has still not been given to me.”

He elaborated, “BMC officials came made me and my family sign isolation forms, sanitised my home, the doctor called asking random questions of what my family business is into? Where is our office? Travel itineraries... haha don’t know what the connection was? Suggested me to get hospitalised to which I replied We have no symptoms so he said ok and suggested to make a chart of oxygen level and take medicines which I am doing since the time i came back post brain stroke from hospital. I know covid is there but how did I and my family contract this virus without leaving the house, without meeting people or even without going for walks is a question I will never be answered to? My sister @priyankaroy_pia is a yogini and a breathing expert who practices ancient breathing techniques and did not leave the house since 3 months, and without any symptoms has been shown positive in the reports.”

Signing off, he said, “For now waiting for second 14 days quarantine to get over and redo my tests. For all of you, wear your masks, wash your hands, stay clean. And I hope you do not contract the virus staying inside the house. Hope to be back soon with negative reports. Love you all”

Hugh Jackman, Laura Dern to star in The Son, follow up to Oscar-nominated The Father

Actors Hugh Jackman and Laura Dern have come on board to star in The Son, which is a follow-up to the 2021 Oscar-nominated film The Father starring Academy Award-nominated stars, Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman. Iain Canning and Emile Sherman, Joanna Laurie for See-Saw Films, Christophe Spadone, and Florian Zeller produce the project. The story is being adapted by Zeller and Christopher Hampton from Zeller's stage plays.

Hugh Jackman, Laura Dern to star in The Son, follow up to Oscar-nominated The Father

According to The Hollywood Reporter. "While The Father explored the devastating emotional impact of dementia, The Son will focus its lens on adolescent depression. Peter strives to be a better father, searching to help his son with intimate and instinctive moments of family happiness — to solve, with understanding, what Nicholas is going through. But the weight of Nicholas’ condition sets the family on a dangerous course, and they must do everything they can to maintain the bonds that hold them together."

The Father, meanwhile, is nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, and Best Production Design at the Academy Awards 2021.
